#1. The Gig Economy Continues To Grow

What’s driving this growth?

From the worker’s perspective – it’s the desire for both variety and flexibility in their roles.

From the employer’s point of view – it’s the access to less available skills that contingent workers possess.

#2. People: The Driving Force For Change

With robotics and other technologies phasing out a range of human job roles, many workers now need to learn new skills i.e. how to program and maintain the robots.

A vital trend that will continue in 2017 is a shift to more highly specialised
on-the-job training to assist workers make the transition into these new roles.

#3. Moving Closer To The Source

More and more organisations are moving their headquarters or significant facilities closer to areas of specialised and available talent. An example of an industry following this trend is the auto industry. As their industry becomes more technology focused, many car companies have established operations in Silicon Valley, whilst others are moving to where the talent is, such as Germany.

#4. From Recruiter to Advisor

With technology taking over many administrative tasks, recruitment professionals have been freed up to collaborate and work closer with HR and talent acquisition leaders, resulting in a far more detailed workforce planning strategy.

Now taking a less reactive approach to recruitment, recruiters have become a highly valued contributor to formulating ways organisations can align their business and talent strategies.

#5. One Platform For All HR Needs

Smarter, integrated platforms (i.e. Human Resource Management Systems), covering all HR needs =

• better productivity

• reduced time-to-hire

• sourcing best-fit talent

• efficient on-boarding process

#6. Improved Candidate Assessment

Longer-term metrics such as tenure, peer-to-peer evaluations and career path tracking measure the success of the candidates’ performance beyond the point of hire. It also helps employers identify what motivates their candidates and gain a better understanding of their attributes.

= more successful new hires

= long-term strategic success

#7. Information Security High On The Agenda

2017 will see the recruitment industry rank data security and privacy as a key business priority.

Data security is no longer a ‘nice to have’.

#8. Culture Comes Into Focus

A recent Korn Ferry study found almost three-quarters of respondents say culture is core to the success of organisational financial performance.

To improve their employer of choice status and better engage and retain top talent, organisations need to increase both their investment and efforts in their employer brand and company culture.

With prediction #1 in mind, It goes without saying…it’s never been as important as it is today, for organisations to include their contingent workers when company culture is being addressed.

#9. Social Recruitment: Stays On-Trend

The introduction of new talent sourcing mobile apps, including those with geo-targeting technology such as that used by other location  based apps like Tinder and Uber, will see social recruitment reach new levels in 2017.

As a result, 2017 will see the continued demise of recruitment platforms such as job boards, which will ultimately become redundant.

#10. Diversity is Key

‘By 2020, it is estimated that there will be a shortfall of some 85 million qualified workers globally.’

To take advantage of untapped talent pools and bridge the skills gap, organisations need to expand their horizons, looking beyond their typical employee and embrace diversity within their workforce.

According to the Diversity Council Australia, 2016 saw an increase in ASX-listed companies of all sizes adopting a diversity policy…looks like we are on the right track.
