Paid Time Off

Full-time employees are entitled to 4 weeks of paid leave per year, while employees who work in shifts receive 5 weeks.

Public holidays vary by state.

Sick Days

Employees are entitled to 10 days paid leave per year which can be used if the employee is sick or if they need to care for a family member. 

Parental leave

Parental leave is unpaid leave that can be taken after an:

  1. employee gives birth
  2. employee’s spouse or de facto partner gives birth
  3. employee adopts a child under 16 years of age.

Employees are entitled to up to 12 months of unpaid parental leave. They can also request up to an additional 12 months of unpaid leave. Some people may refer to parental leave as ‘maternity’ or ‘paternity’ leave.
 Employees are able to take parental leave if they have worked for their employer for at least 12 months and casual employees are also eligible if they have been working for the employe on a regular and systematic basis for at least 12 months.

* Eligible employees can get parental leave pay from either or both the Australian Government under the Paid Parental Leave Scheme and their Employer.

From 1 July 2023, eligible employees who are the carer of a newborn or newly adopted child can get up to 20 weeks’ Parental Leave Pay, which is paid at the National Minimum Wage

Other leaves

Bereavement: 2 days’ paid leave for full-time and part-time Employees. Casual employees get unpaid leave as Compassionate Leave.
