What happens when there’s a strike and employees that are unionized are going to stop working?
CBC News has published an article entitled ‘The Chronicle Herald contacts freelancers ahead of possible work stoppage‘. The article talks about The Herald offering contract roles to freelance journalists, as a way of keeping the paper running through a proposed upcoming strike in Canada. Recent graduates of the University of King’s were also approached and offered contract roles with the paper.
In Nova Scotia it is a legal practice, to hire temporary or permanent replacement workers during a work stoppage.
